Objectivity There are a number of steps that one must take in order to be a critical consumer of the news. First, one must create an objective stance by removing any personal bias that may otherwise jeopardize the objectivity of the news consumption occurring. This means removing oneself from our own personal biases and opinions. This is one of the hardest steps in order to consume the news objectively. It is very difficult to remove ourselves from our own personal biases. However, it is still possible. In order to accomplish this, one must not think of one's own personal values or ethics and just digest the news with an open mind. Educating oneself on current events helps improve our foundation of education so that we can be more critical when consuming the news. Still, there are times when all of us fail to be a critical consumer of the news. For example, I personally tend to allow my bias into play when I read news stories involving children. I can't help but feel emotional when reading about children in tragedies and dramatic situations. Thus, I tend to be more biased in regards to these subjects compared to other subjects that come up in the news.
